I’m still here

I’m not dead. Yet. Yipeee!

Well, I’ve been on hiatus from blogging for more than a year. And now I’m baaacckkk!

I just completed my YA novel and right now I’m polishing it. Soon, I’m going to change my status from being a wannabe writer to a business person—shopping my novel to super awesome agents. One step at a time.

While doing that, I’ll be hanging out more around here so, stay tuned.

Happy Spring!

Spring has finally sprung and it’s gorgeous outside. So, I’ll put aside my writing for a day or two and go out to enjoy the sunshine. Before I do that, I have written about how music plays an important role in my creative writing. As a writer, you write either fiction or nonfiction, you usually will use certain devices to get you in the mood to write. I use songs to get into the writing groove.

Happy New Year 2009!

cheerleaders.jpg

So writer, what is your new year’s resolution? I’m sure if you plan to start writing the novel you have been hiding for so long, then this is the perfect time to go for it. Or if some of you still haven’t finished writing the one from last year, then get on with it and hurry.

Me? Well, I need to start the process of writing another novel this month. I’m sure the story is strong enough to reach the end. I hate it when I reach the middle then suddenly get stuck, run out of gas and don’t know what to do. I usually outline each chapter, but when I start to write them, suddenly the scenes I reserve for the next chapter get written and this leaves the next chapter empty. Before I know it, I am out of scenes.

If you have not written a novel, this may sound crazy, but who says the writing process is easy? Otherwise each of us could write a novel every month!

So here is my resolution for 2009:

    1. Get a literary agent;
    2. Work on the next novel;
    3. Get published.

It isn’t much, is it? I can do #2 for sure since I know what to expect based on what I’ve learned from writing and completing my previous manuscript. As for #1 and #3, wish me luck!

Go and let’s start work on our resolution.

The colors of spring

Spring Blossom

Spring has sprung. The crabapples bloom heavily, the songbirds perching on a dogwood branch and pastel colors of apple green, yellow and variation shades of pink flowers between multi-colored tulips are a feast for my eyes. The sky is so blue, without any trace of clouds and the wind is cool amid the hot sun penetrating my skin.

This is a perfect spring.

Spring is in the air

happy spring!

Can you smell or feel it? There is something in the air! Yes! The spring is in the air! Or am I just imagining it because the winter is too long, too cold and too much snow? Well, at least here in New England, it is. One thing for sure though, the days are starting to get noticeably longer, yippee!!

Okay, back to my blog. I was a total crap. I can’t get my blog going consistently. It is my fault. I know. Being someone else in my day job and writing mostly technical and analytical and then switching it into the creative writing mode in a matter of minutes totally wreck my brain. It’s hard and my creative side just dies no matter how hard I try to continue to write. Has this happened to you too? At least I am not the only one.

When you have a so called “Friend in Business”…

friendinbusiness.jpg

If you have been in business for years, I am sure you have a lot of experience dealing with all types of people around you. One of them is what I call a “friend in business”.

When I first started my handmade bags business, people who barely knew me got very friendly and were attracted to me like moths attracted to a light. Being a first time entrepreneur, I found this exciting and I thought these people shared and cared about what I am passionate about. They encouraged and motivated me in every step of the way. But as every expert business owner advises, ‘you don’t have to go too far to find your own enemy’. Your so called ‘friend in business’ can easily turn into the worst enemy there can be. And it has happened to me.

What is SAD and how you can use it to fuel your interest in writing

autumn.jpg
One Sunday afternoon in early September I felt overwhelmed by a sense of sadness. I felt it the day before, but just brushed it off for I thought my emotions have played a trick on me again! For every late Summer Season I experience a similar feeling. Now that I am returning to my writing, I started to pay closer attention to my own feelings. Interestingly enough, when I started to feel sad for nothing, I am very much interested to write more. So, I decided to find out what exactly is going on. Why do I feel this sense of sadness when I don’t have any other reasons to feel this way? I did try to explain the reason I feel sad because the summer is over and I wish that this season will continue forever.

A wanna-be writer friend

My long lost friend found me recently after googling my name. She immediately emailed me and started where we had left off since having been out of touch for about 16 years. Well, apparently she is very much interested to write a novel about her experiences. I congratulate and encourage her to start her writing. Her problem is she doesn’t know where and how to start.
