Do you enjoy blogging? Or has it become like a burden since you are so busy with your other priorities that your focus on creating high quality content gets difficult? If you are in this predicament, you are not alone. Blogging comes with responsibility and you should be aware of it from the very start.
I am a newbie when it comes to blogging, yet I already feel overwhelmed by the responsibility of owning a blog. I write everyday and I strive for high quality content.
So what do you do? How are you going to make sure that you are able to produce the best content possible and at the same time tended to your other priorities?
In my case, I am still able to produce content for my blog everyday despite my hectic schedule because I have decided early on to blog about something I love to write. Creative writing is one of my passions and I can write anything related to writing fiction and creative nonfiction. I believe this is the reason I still enjoy blogging.
I also have goals in mind when I set up my blog. I want to use my blog as a platform to improve my creative writing skills. I was once a very successful writer in non-English speaking language (English is my third language). Now my only intention is to be able to write fiction or creative nonfiction in English. I still have a long way to go. I thought if I write everyday, sooner or later I will eventually master the craft and before I know it, I may be able to publish an e-book. Who knows, but I am chasing my dream through blogging everyday.
Whenever you find yourself abandoning your blog, you need to:
1. Look back at your goals when you first set up your blog. What do you want to achieve through blogging? You can also examine your purpose(s) to blog. When you get back to your goal(s) and purpose(s) to blog, you can ask yourself how important is it to achieve these goals? If it is important enough, it will motivate you to blog and vice versa.
2. If you have been writing for several months, check back and re-examine what categories have the most content? This will help you to revise your topics and focus on the content for that particular category(s). When I revise the categories in my blog, I find I am inclined to write more about writing. This prompts me to write more about it and consolidate other categories or eliminate them completely.
3. Find out if you need feedback and acceptance from others in the online community. If so, you need to be proactive to seek out those who will give the feedback and acceptance you desire. You can join discussion group(s), comment on other’s blog content that interest you or become involved in other online social activities that help you to get the feedback and acceptance you seek.
Blogging for me is very rewarding. I can write and immediately publish my writing online. At this stage, I am not actively seeking feedback from the online community since I am still working at perfecting my writing skills and my English writing. Through blogging, I can exercise my writing skills back after neglecting them for many years – only this time I plan to write in the English language. The next move is to submit my articles to e-zines or to get published in glossy magazines. Then, to publish a book is the ultimate goal.
