How I motivate myself to continue writing

Since I am now writing each weekday for my blog, I will usually prepare all content a week in advance. This is to make sure that I am able to post each day.
Sometimes the words come so easy and I’m able to write without any difficulties. Sometimes I stare at a blank screen and am unable to type anything. Every time I face this stumbling block I use my secret exercise to get back to continue with my writing.
The secret exercise
There are many ways to overcome writer’s block. Some will take a break and go for a walk or do other activities that have nothing to do with writing. This exercise will refresh and rejuvenate the writer.
My technique is a bit different, but I’m sure I’m not the only one who uses this exercise. What I do is to write about my having difficulties in continuing to write. I rant by asking myself the reasons why I have difficulty continuing to write? I will list all the problems I have of not able to write.
Before I know it, I’m writing again. It’s not about the topic I am going to write rather it is about me not being able to get back to write the assignment. When I’ve finished writing down all the rants and rambles about not able to write, I usually find out all the excuses.
The reasons sometimes are just plain and silly like I’m lazy or just unable to write the perfect introduction, etc. and so on. However, if the reason is due to the fact that I don’t have enough information to continue the writing, I will find it or do the research right away. If I found the reasons are due to procrastination (say for instance, because I couldn’t find the perfect introduction) or just plain lazy, then, I have to motivate myself using external and internal rewards.
External rewards
Here is the list I use to motivate myself to get back to writing:
1. Blogging is a way to exercise my writing skill to achieve the goal to become a published writer very soon;
2. I will read my favorite bloggers (I have on my links category) and admire the respect they receive for writing consistently in their blog. I want to achieve what they have already achieved;
3. Remind myself of the rewards I will receive when I complete my writing on time. The rewards include returning to read the books I’m dying to read but always have to put aside due to the time constraints.
Internal rewards
The external rewards above of course will compliment the internal rewards to form the strong motivation to continue to write. So, I remind myself about the sense of satisfaction and relief I will experience every time I accomplish my writing assignment. I also feel successful whenever I see the content uploaded in my blog on time.
When it comes to writing, I keep reminding myself to start by taking baby steps. It takes a lot of discipline to follow the Editorial Calendar schedule I’ve set every day. It is not easy, but I’m sure if you are a writer you know how writer’s block can cripple the writer’s ability to write.
So, now you are in the know about how I motivate myself to get back to write content for my blog. Do you have your own solution when you face similar situations as me? I’m sure every writer will use a different way to overcome their writing block. So, let’s get back to writing shall we?
