Juggling the day work and writing for my blog

Since I am starting to write for my blog regularly, I found myself frantically juggling between tending my business and writing everyday for my blog. My handmade bags and accessories business is already established and I would like to have a little space so I can start my writing. Both require a considerably large amount of writing, but they are two different types of writing.

My business involves mostly technical writing like updating the content of the web site, answering email from customers who asking about the cost of combined shipping, updating the book as well as the business plan. It is all about business, very straightforward and kind of dry…

On the other hand, writing for my blog is very refreshing. It is my platform to launch my creative writing which I can seldom do in my business. My blog allows me to write what I would like to write without thinking if I need to find out about the shipping cost, if the dimensions and features of the bags are correct, or if the net worth is yet to be updated.

I’ve been visiting a lot of bloggers sites lately. I learned that most bloggers have their day jobs and maintain their blogs at the same time. I admired those who are able to handle both their jobs and blogging at the same time without missing a day. I know it takes discipline to be successful in doing what you have to do and maintaining the creative outlet.

So what I do to make sure I am able to do both works - tending my business and writing content for my blog? I need to plan my time wisely. So here is how I solved this dilemma:

1. Create my schedule. I want to map out times when I can do my creative writing and work on my business from Monday to Friday. Weekend is my time-off from writing. I get more comfortable if:

  • Early in the morning: Writing for my blog/research/uploading new content.
  • Noon: At my sewing studio/updating my business site/fulfill orders/answering emails from customers.
  • 6 – 8 PM: Taking care of the photographs of my bags and uploading to the site/answering emails from customers.
  • 9 – 11 PM: Writing a draft for my next blog content and update my blogroll and social media.

2. I need an Editorial Calendar. I will plan the content topics a week ahead and try to stick with it. I plan to write for my blog from Monday to Friday and I hope I will able to achieve it.

I will start taking the baby steps to get the right rhythm to make sure I will achieve my goals to be able to blog regularly while growing my business. There are more challenges a head of how I can sustain the motivation, but then, that is another topic to blog about.
